At the recent BitSummit conference in Japan, something happened that will give Daisuke ‘Pixel’ Amaya fans a total nerdgasm: the beloved creator of indie game super-hit Cave Story revealed a brand new game.
Titled Gero Blaster, this 2D iPhone shooter/platformer is like a cross between Cave Story and Contra, following the story of main character frog-dude Kaeru in his attempt to track down his kidnapped cat girlfriend.
With a planned release for May 2013 (whether that’s a worldwide release or Japan-only release date we’re unsure) the game has been more-or-less confirmed by Tyrone Rodriguez of Nicalis to be ported for the 3DS, akin to Pixel’s previous titles Cave Story, Ikachan and Guxt. Seeing as Cave Story had references to Ikachan throughout, I’m personally expecting and hoping for some neat Cave Story nudges in Gero Blaster — Cave Story, after all, remains to be one of the best video games I’ve ever played.
I’m really looking forward to this one and as should anyone that enjoyed Cave Story (or anyone that’s yet to play it) be. Make sure you check out the game’s trailer and screenshot gallery below.
