Old 90′s arcade racers are, next to kart-racers, my favourite type of racing game. I’m not a huge racing fan and the modern photo-realistic racers don’t do much for me — give me Daytona USA or Mario Kart over Grand Turismo for Speed Pursuit Grid F1 5 any day. And don’t tell me that isn’t a real game.
So the Kickstarter for ‘The 90′s Arcade Racer’ was a breath of beautiful-looking fresh air, teasing me with the potential of playing exactly what I’ve been after: a old-school arcade racing game reminiscent of the good ol’ SEGA racing games.
It’s rather stunning to look at, even in its uncompleted form, and with the Kickstarter project page recently passing the $10,000 they were asking for with five days left to go the game is a dead cert now. Rather interestingly, game company Nicalis (famous for their indie game ports such as Cave Story) have partnered up with the game’s creator, assuring that the game will be coming to the Wii eShop as well as PC, Mac and Linux now.
If you feel like funding the project to try aiming for it to reach its $15,000 and $20,000 stretch goals, then pledge here.
